The senator representing Niger North, Senator Abubakar Sani Bello, has distributed 4,000 bags of fertiliser to farmers in the area, and urged  them to boost food production by leveraging on the vast arable land in  the senatorial zone.

The senator, represented by the Secretary to State Government, Alhaji Shehu Danyaya, flagged off the distribution exercise yesterday.

He said 500 bags of the fertiliser would be distributed to each of the eight local government areas of the senatorial district.

Senator Bello described farmers as the backbone of the nation’s development, stressing that the economy needs the agriculture sector to be able to diversify her economy.

“This fertiliser palliative is a deliberate step to support our small scale farmers and scale up food production. The aim is clear, Niger North should lead in ensuring Nigeria’s food security,” he said.

He added that the intervention was designed to support farmers, enhance productivity and strengthen the farming season and urged beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity by aligning with the federal government’s food security programme.
