The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Remi Tinubu, has expressed optimism that Nigeria can eliminate tuberculosis (TB) by 2030 and urged stronger national commitment and collective action to tackle the disease.
In a message yesterday to mark the 2026 World Tuberculosis Day, the First Lady said the global theme, “Yes! We Can End TB,” underscored the importance of strong leadership and collaboration among communities, survivors, health workers and development partners in accelerating progress toward ending the epidemic.
She said tuberculosis remains a preventable and treatable disease, but continues to affect thousands of families across the country.
According to her, although Nigeria has recorded a significant reduction in new TB cases, more work needs to be done to completely eradicate the disease.
“We must intensify efforts to boost domestic financing, raise awareness, expand early detection, strengthen access to quality treatment and eliminate the stigma that prevents many from seeking care,” she said.
The First Lady emphasised that sustained political will, active community engagement and a shared sense of responsibility are critical to achieving the goal of ending TB.
“With the sustained political will demonstrated by this administration, community engagement and shared responsibility, we can indeed end TB by 2030,” she added.
