As usual, Nigeria joined the rest of the world in celebrating the World Sustainable Gastronomy Day, which is celebrated on June 18 annually and focused mainly on how the process of making the food we eat.
The occasion is focussed on the three aspects of sustainable development namely people, planet, and profit.
The theme of this year’s celebration was ‘History and its Significance’ which is the sustainable development of business and health aspects.
Speaking at the occasion, which was celebrated at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, director-general of National Institute of Hospitality, Nura Sani Kangiwa, educated the participants at the occasion on what gastronomy is and what it entails.
In the first commemoration of NIHOTOUR Sustainable Development Day of the year 2021 with over 1,500 people comprising stakeholders in the travel, tourism hospitality businesses, heads of ministries, departments and agencies of government, and members of the public.
“In order to make this year’s edition of the Sustainable Gastronomy Day a spectacular one, the Institute organised different competitions among schools that offer catering cost, with Essay Writing for those Secondary Schools offering Tourism in Nigeria, where the winners will be rewarded accordingly,” he said.
In her own contribution, the Vice Chairman, 9th Senate Committee on Culture and Tourism, Senator (Professor) Nora Ladi Daduut, called for the the need to do something that will help in telling the world about Nigerian foods and cuisines for domestic and international consumption.
