Nigeria Customs Appoint Jaiyeola Alternate Captain Ahead Of CGC Volleyball League Finale

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has appointed Abdulquadri Jaiyeola as the alternate captain of its men’s volleyball team ahead of the second phase of the 2026 Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Volleyball Premier League.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the Head of Sports, Samuel Onikeku, who described Jaiyeola as a proven leader capable of strengthening the team’s leadership structure.

According to Onikeku, the experienced player earned the role following his impressive leadership of Nigeria’s senior men’s volleyball team, which recently secured qualification for the African Nations Championship qualifiers in Abidjan.

“Abdulquadri Jaiyeola has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership both at the national and club levels,” Onikeku said.

“His experience and dedication make him a worthy addition to the team’s leadership structure as alternate captain.”

He also recalled Jaiyeola’s contribution to the Nigeria Customs team during the 2021 African Men’s Club Championship in Tunisia.

Despite the new appointment, Philip Akande will remain captain of the NCS men’s volleyball team, while Chris Udah and Princewill Okoi will continue as first and second assistant captains respectively.

Onikeku praised the team’s impressive display during the opening phase of the league and challenged the players to maintain their momentum as they prepare for the decisive stage of the competition.

“Our men’s team displayed a high level of professionalism, discipline and commitment throughout the first phase of the league,” he said.

“I urge the players to improve on that performance and remain focused as we head into the final phase of the competition. We must continue to complement our efforts with hard work, teamwork and consistency if we are to achieve our objectives.”

The Nigeria Customs Service will be aiming to build on its strong start when the second phase of the 2026 CGC Volleyball Premier League gets under way.
