Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to strengthening bilateral and multilateral cooperation with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as Ambassador-designate Dr Yakubu Gambo formally presented copies of his Letter of Credence to Saudi authorities.

In a press statement issued by the Media Aide to Ambassador Gambo, Idris Sarauta, the envoy presented the copy of his Letter of Credence to Ambassador Abdulmajeed bin Rashid Al-Samari, Undersecretary of the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Protocol Affairs, in Riyadh.

The diplomatic procedure precedes the formal presentation of the original Letter of Credence to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, which will officially accredit Ambassador Gambo as Nigeria’s representative to Saudi Arabia.

The statement noted that the meeting was characterized by cordial discussions, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to strengthening the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia.

It explained that the presentation of a copy of the Letter of Credence is an important diplomatic tradition recognized under international protocol, serving as formal notification to the host government that a new ambassador has arrived and is ready to assume official duties.

“The process symbolizes mutual trust, respect for diplomatic norms, and the continuation of friendly relations between sovereign nations. It also provides an opportunity for both parties to outline areas of common interest and future cooperation,” the statement said.

Ambassador Gambo also expressed appreciation for the warm reception and goodwill extended to him by the Saudi authorities.

He reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening ties with the Kingdom and pledged to work diligently towards expanding cooperation in line with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 agenda and Nigeria’s developmental aspirations.

Ambassador Gambo further stated that both countries stand to benefit from enhanced collaboration in economic development, cultural exchange, diplomacy, and other mutually beneficial initiatives.

During the meeting, Ambassador Al-Samari welcomed the Nigerian envoy and reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Nigeria across several sectors.

He emphasised the Kingdom’s commitment to maintaining a productive relationship with Ambassador Gambo and pledged full support towards the successful discharge of his diplomatic responsibilities.

The Saudi official also underscored the importance of Nigeria-Saudi Arabia relations, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, energy, education, security cooperation, as well as the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims and residents in the Kingdom.
