Nigeria has entered into a renewable energy partnership following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Committee on Energy Efficiency, Innovation and Certification (NCEEIC) and energy firms from the United Kingdom and Turkey.
The agreement was signed during a visit by a Nigerian delegation to Turkey.
Parties to the MoU include NCEEIC, Altimapa Limited of the United Kingdom, Alfa Solar Energy of Turkey, and Peninsula Corporate Finance, also based in Turkey.
In a statement signed by the National Coordinator of NCEEIC, Mr Nwadavid Chijioke, and made available to journalists in Abuja on Thursday, the partnership will focus on renewable energy projects, including the establishment of a Solar PV Quality Assurance Laboratory, deployment of solar energy solutions in healthcare facilities, development of utility-scale solar farms, and plans for local solar manufacturing.
The statement said the projects are aimed at expanding renewable energy infrastructure in the country.
It added that the proposed solarisation of hospitals is expected to improve electricity supply to healthcare facilities, including those in remote communities.
The statement further noted that the proposed Solar PV Quality Assurance Laboratory would focus on standards and quality assurance for solar products within the sector.
Officials said the engagement forms part of ongoing cooperation efforts on renewable energy development.
