Nigeria and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening defence cooperation and enhancing intelligence sharing between both countries.

A statement issued by Queeneth Iheoma-Hart on behalf of the Ministry of Defence said the agreement was signed by the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Muhammed Matawalle, and Major General Yousef A. Alhnaity, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Jordanian Armed Forces, on May 10, 2026, in Amman, Jordan.

According to the statement, the MoU establishes a framework for collaboration in intelligence exchange, defence capability development, counter-terrorism operations, joint military training, defence research and industry cooperation, as well as mutual support for regional and global peace and security.

Speaking on the agreement, Matawalle described the development as a major milestone in Nigeria-Jordan defence relations, stressing that enhanced cooperation between both nations is critical to addressing evolving global and regional security challenges.

“Nigeria and Jordan recognise the value of mutually beneficial cooperation and remain committed to deepening defence ties to promote peace, security, and stability within our respective regions,” he said.

He also underscored the importance of technology transfer under the agreement, noting plans to explore the establishment of a production line in Nigeria in line with the provisions of the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) Act.

It added that the agreement is expected to deepen military-to-military relations and improve operational capacity in areas of counter-terrorism and defence innovation.
