The Unity Advocacy Group, UAG, has hailed the Armed Forces of Nigeria for successfully hosting the Africa Military Games 2024, saying the hosting has proven that the country is safe for visitors.
The group said the Armed Forces of Nigeria, under the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Chris Musa, through AMGA 2024, had marketed the country by sending a strong message that the country is safe to visit and do business.
UAG, in a press briefing on Monday in Abuja, said that by hosting AMGA 2024, Nigeria is also strengthening cooperation with other countries in fighting various forms of security challenges.
Addressing the press on behalf of the UAG, the Convener, Ifeanyi Aigbedion, said the games surpass many international standards, especially in terms of their organisation.
UAG said it is a reminiscence of the good old days when the country hosted sporting events.
The UAG joined Nigeria’s National Ambassador for Sports Diplomacy, Segun Odegbami, to describe the games as a groundbreaking moment for Nigeria’s sports development. The event is a bold step toward reversing decades of neglect and underachievement in the sector.
The group said the turnout of 21 countries is an indication that the participating countries believe in the continental leadership capacity of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
According to UAG, “The Armed Forces of Nigeria under the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Chris Musa, through AMGA 2024, has sent a very strong message that Nigeria is safe to come and do business.
“Through AMGA 2024, the AFN will also strengthen cooperation with other countries in fighting various forms of security challenges.
“AMGA 2024 made us remember the good old days when Nigeria hosted international sporting events.
“The AFN not only hosted but won. We salute the CDS, which said that the Nigerian military will continue to recruit and develop sportsmen who will go on to win more laurels and medals for the country.”
