Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has reported 27 new confirmed cases of Lassa fever between December 22 and 28, 2025, marking an increase from the 21 cases reported in the previous epidemiological week.
The NCDC, in its situation report for epidemiological week 52, released yesterday, reported new infections across five states: Ondo, Bauchi, Ebonyi, Nasarawa, and Taraba.
The centre stated that the country has now logged 1,148 confirmed cases and 215 deaths in 2025, representing a Case Fatality Rate (CFR) of 18.7 per cent, which is higher than the 16.3 per cent recorded during the same period in 2024.
The report showed that 22 states across 107 local government areas recorded at least one confirmed case in 2025, with Ondo, Bauchi, Taraba and Edo accounting for 89 per cent of all infections.
Despite the uptick recorded in week 52, NCDC noted that both suspected and confirmed cases are lower compared to the same period in 2024.
The centre urged Nigerians to maintain high hygiene standards, keep food items properly stored, and avoid contact with rodents, the primary carriers of the Lassa virus.
