Nigeria has signed a new agreement with the United Kingdom that will allow Britain to deport thousands of failed asylum seekers and convicted criminals to the West African nation.
The deal was formalised by Nigeria’s minister of interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and UK Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s state visit to the UK.
The UK Home Office confirmed the development on Thursday, highlighting the renewed bilateral commitment to managing migration and strengthening cooperation on security and border control.
More details are expected as both governments roll out implementation plans for the agreement.
