Nigeria’s Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, Ajuri Ngelale, has met with the United States (US) Head of Delegation to the United Nations Climate Conference in Bonn to discuss mobilising large-scale climate finance to support Nigeria’s transition to a green industrial economy.

In a statement released yesterday after the meeting, the Nigerian envoy said they had “shared views concerning tangible next steps to be taken toward leveraging large-scale climate financing instruments to drive Nigeria’s green industrial agenda in the years ahead.”

Ngelale said new mechanisms would need to be implemented to ensure transparent and innovative application of available resources to attract investment capital from around the world for Nigeria’s green industrialisation plans.

“I am confident that we have the team to deliver on this for the country. One step at a time,” he said.

The U.S. delegation was led by Sue Biniaz, the Principal Deputy Special Envoy for Climate, who was joined by Trigg Talley, Managing Director for Negotiations at the State Department’s Office of Global Change.
