Nigerian-American comedian and actress Ego Nwodim has secured her first gig after her departure from Saturday Night Live! (SNL).
Nwodim will appear alongside fellow SNL alums Jerrod Michael, Sam Jay and Vir Das in ‘The Comedy Series, ‘ which will run from November 19 to 23 at the Lincoln Centre Theatre’s Claire Tow Theatre in New York City.
During her seven seasons at the popular American NBC comedy sketch programme, she’s created episodes such as ‘Proud Parents’, ‘Mid-day News’, and ‘Classroom’ that not only highlight Nigerian/African culture but also traverse race and make fun of races without punching any down.
Other episodes directed by Nwodim include ‘Lisa From Temecula’, ‘Jail Scene’, ‘Dionne Warwick Talk Show’, and ‘Dog Park’, among others.
Although Nwodim was scheduled to return for Season 51 of SNL, she announced her exit from the NBC late-night show a month ago, after being part of the cast for seven years.
In her farewell post on Instagram, she wrote, “The hardest part of a great party is knowing when to say goodnight. But after seven unforgettable seasons, I have decided to leave SNL. I am immensely grateful to Lorne for the opportunity, my castmates, the writers and the crew for their brilliance, support and friendship.
“Week after week on that stage taught me more than I could have ever imagined and I will carry those memories (and that laughter) with me always. Now invite me to your weddings, please!!!”
