The 42nd Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) Convention was concluded yesterday in Abuja with the celebration of the rich literary tradition of Nigeria and honoring of the vibrant contributions of authors.
This year’s convention held at the Chinua Achebe International Conference Center, Mamman Vatsa Writers Village Mpape, drew writers, poets, scholars and literature enthusiasts from across the country and beyond.
The convention themed; “Kinetic Leap” aimed at fostering discussions and collaboration within the Nigerian literary community while reflecting on the pivotal role of literature in shaping the nation’s future.
In his welcome address, president of the association, Camillus Ukuah, said the association had made remarkable achievements and significant milestones, and worked tirelessly to promote and celebrate Nigerian literature.
“We have fostered an environment that encourages creativity, intellectual discourse and cultural exchange, and I am immensely proud of what we have accomplished together.
“Our administration also inducted illustrious individuals into the prestigious ANA fellowship. This recognition is reserved solely for individuals who have made notable contributions to the development of literature in the country and to the association,” he said.
He added that ANA had placed significant emphasis on promoting literature in schools and institutions as well as partnering with educational institutions, libraries and government agencies.
The event spanned four days and featured diverse activities, including book reading, workshops and literary awards. Highlights of the event included commissioning of the second phase of ANA hotels/apartments, commissioning of the Institute for Creative Writing and Film, AGM/elections and an award dinner.
