Nigerian Envoy To Jamaica Prioritises Trade, Investment, Technology To Boost Ties

The High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Jamaica, Dr Jane Bassey Adams, has laid emphasis on Trade, Investment and technology, health, culture tourism and education as important sectors to boost bilateral ties with Jamaica.

The envoy made this known when she presented her Letters of Credence to His Excellency the Most Honourable Sir Patrick Linton Allen, Governor-General of Jamaica, at King’s House, Kingston, Jamaica, on 10 September 2026.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, the high commissioner conveyed the warmest greetings and best wishes of Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Sir Allen as well as the Government and people of Jamaica.

She described her presentation of Letters of Credence as a significant milestone in Nigeria-Jamaica relations, highlighting the enduring historical bonds, shared heritage and strong kinship between the two countries. She underscored the deep cultural and ancestral connections between the peoples of Nigeria and Jamaica, as well as their shared commitment to freedom, progress and national development.

She emphasised the importance of translating the bonds shared by both countries into robust and mutually beneficial partnerships, even as she expressed her determination to work closely with the Jamaican authorities and other stakeholders to identify new opportunities for cooperation, while strengthening existing partnerships between the two countries.

She affirmed that her mission would be guided by the vision of “A New Dawn” in Nigeria-Jamaica relations, with emphasis on reinvigorating bilateral engagement and translating the strong cultural and historical affinity between the two countries into tangible economic and developmental outcomes.

Nigeria and Jamaica enjoy longstanding cordial relations, anchored on shared history, mutual respect and common interests. Over the decades, both countries have strengthened ties in the areas of tourism, education, sports and cultural exchanges. They have bolstered cooperation at the multilateral level, especially in the Commonwealth of Nations and the United Nations, advancing shared interests and positions on matters of global significance, including international peace, security and sustainable development.

“The federal government of Nigeria remains committed to working with the government of Jamaica on new opportunities for enhanced bilateral cooperation, with a view to ensuring that the fraternal ties between the two countries continue to deliver meaningful and mutually beneficial outcomes,” the statement said.
