Nigerian Man Jailed 12 Years In Wales For Raping Woman, Sexually Assaulting Another While On Bail

A Nigerian man, Olukanyinsola Odebode, 30, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison in Wales after he was convicted of raping one woman and sexually assaulting another while on bail.

Odebode was convicted at Swansea Crown Court of one count of rape and two counts of assault by penetration following a trial.

The court imposed an extended sentence after determining that he continued to pose a serious risk to the public.

According to WalesOnline, the offences were committed between June 2024 and September 2025.

Odebode first sexually assaulted and raped a woman in the Gwent Police area before he was arrested and released on bail.

While on bail, he sexually assaulted another woman in the Dyfed-Powys Police area, the court heard.

During the trial at Swansea Crown Court, prosecutors presented evidence relating to the two victims and Odebode’s conduct.

Prosecutor Mark Wyeth KC told the court that Odebode was a danger to women and that his actions had caused life-changing consequences for the victims.

A Probation Service report presented to the court said Odebode showed little understanding of his offending and rejected the jury’s findings.

The report concluded that he posed a high risk of causing serious harm, linking the risk to what it described as attitudes of entitlement.

The court also heard that seven other women had reported concerns about Odebode’s sexual behaviour to police since 2019.

Those reports included allegations of rape, indecent exposure, sexual assault and stalking, although they did not result in convictions.

One of the victims described Odebode as “very predatory,” while the prosecution said he had humiliated and degraded his victims.

Victim impact statements also detailed the effect of the offences on the two women.

Passing sentence, Judge Huw Rees said Odebode’s behaviour had a profound effect on the victims and expressed concern about his lack of insight into his offending.

The judge ruled that an extended sentence was necessary because of the risk Odebode posed to the public.

Odebode was sentenced to nine years in custody followed by three years on licence.

He must serve two-thirds of the custodial term before he can apply for release, with the Parole Board to determine whether he is safe to be released.

He will also remain on the sex offenders’ register for life.

Odebode had no previous convictions before the offences that led to his conviction and sentence.
