Former speaker of Kaduna State House of Assembly Prof. Dogara Mato, has said Nigeria is yet to overcome the challenges of election violence.

The ex-lawmaker stated this in his paper presentation titled ‘Overcoming the Challenges of 2023 General Elections and the Journey for a Better Nigeria’ at the 12th Nigerian Leadership Award held in Kaduna yesterday revealed that 2023 general elections was the most credible in the history of Nigeria.

“Major reason for deeply rooted crises in a party is the open adoption or the anointing of some aspirants in a contest by party leaders. The primary elections that ushered in the candidates for the 2023 elections were largely influenced by money and political godfathers.

“Today, hardly anyone can venture into politics without a financial war chest. This is evident right from the purchase of party nomination forms.

The cost of managing party officials and party delegates on the primary election days leaves a lot of financial memories in aspirant minds.

“Another disturbing challenge is that of political godfathers. They direct the affairs of the politics in their various spheres of influence at will and largely to satisfy their desperate and inert greed against the general good of the people. Political godfathers should learn to deploy meritocracy as a yardstick for the nomination of aspirants into public offices”.

The chief executive officer, Privileged Magazine and Communications Nigeria Limited, Hon. Victor Matthew Bobai, urged Nigerians to support the president elect for a renewed hope.

Bobai also noted that the president- elect has a good track record, saying that he would not disappoint Nigerians.
