The federal government has said Nigeria’s future prosperity, economic competitiveness, and public service delivery will depend largely on how effectively the country leverages digital technology.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF)Senator George Akume (CON), stated this in Abuja on Wednesday while declaring open the Digital Transformation Summit 2026.

Senator Akume who doubles as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Galaxy Backbone Limited, described digital innovation as a critical driver of national development and called for stronger collaboration among federal, state, and local governments to accelerate the country’s digital transformation agenda.

The summit, which also marks the 20th anniversary of Galaxy Backbone, brought together government officials, technology experts, and stakeholders to discuss strategies for advancing digital governance and innovation.

In a statement by his spokesman, Yomi Odunuga, Akume noted that Galaxy Backbone has, over the past two decades, evolved into a key national asset, providing digital infrastructure, cloud services, connectivity, cybersecurity solutions, and secure networks that support government operations across Nigeria.

“The future of governance will be digital. The future of economic competitiveness will be digital. The future of public service delivery will be digital,” he said, stressing that technology has become indispensable to national growth and development.

The SGF said the digital transformation vision of President Bola Tinubu aligns with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises innovation, institutional efficiency, transparency, inclusion, and economic growth.

According to him, powering Nigeria’s digital future requires more than ambition, noting that sustainable progress depends on robust infrastructure, innovation, collaboration, and institutions capable of delivering services at scale.

He commended Galaxy Backbone for its role in supporting Ministries, Departments and Agencies through shared digital services and national infrastructure, describing the organisation as a trusted partner in government digitalisation efforts.

Akume also urged state governments, ICT agencies, and public institutions to take advantage of existing digital infrastructure and partnerships to improve governance and service delivery.

“The digital infrastructure already exists. The expertise exists. The partnerships exist. What is required is greater collaboration, stronger adoption, and a shared commitment to accelerating digital transformation at every level of government,” he said.

The SGF further praised the management and staff of Galaxy Backbone for their contributions to the organisation’s growth, expressing confidence that its next phase of development would deliver even greater impact.

He said the summit would help shape policies, partnerships, and ideas needed to build a more connected, innovative, competitive, and prosperous Nigeria.
