Nigeria’s Ongoing Reforms Require Coordinated Communication – Uzodimma, Oborevwori, Others

The Governor of Imo State and Director-General of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Senator Hope Uzodimma and the Governor of Delta State, Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, have declared that Nigeria’s ongoing reforms require coordinated communication and effective grassroots engagement to succeed.

The duo who spoke during the South-South Strategic Communications and Mobilisation Summit, themed “One Party, One Message, One Mobilisation,” held in Asaba on Monday, called for unity of purpose, message, and mobilisation across the country.

Uzodimma, who described the plan as the “compass and spine” for all Renewed Hope Ambassadors nationwide, in his remarks said the summit produced a comprehensive national work plan outlining timelines, responsibilities, and deliverables aimed at driving economic growth and national development.

The Imo governor noted that although Nigeria is witnessing improvements in macro-economic indicators such as GDP growth, increased oil production, and enhanced revenue allocation, a gap still exists between these gains and the realities experienced by citizens at the grassroots.

He said ambassadors must bridge this gap by translating government policies into simple, relatable language and engaging directly with communities.

“You are the interpreters of government vision and the bridge between performance and public understanding. You must go where the President cannot reach and explain reforms in ways people understand,” he said.

Uzodimma acknowledged that reforms such as subsidy removal and exchange rate adjustments entail temporary hardship, but maintained that these measures are necessary to correct decades of systemic dysfunction in the nation’s economy.

He urged participants to adopt a conversational approach in engaging citizens, emphasising listening, transparency, and data-driven communication, while countering misinformation and opposition narratives with facts.

In his remarks, Delta State Governor and Chief Host, Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, described the summit as a strategic platform to strengthen party structures and deepen grassroots mobilisation in the South-South region.

Oborevwori stressed that unity remains the foundation of political success, warning that fragmented messaging would weaken the party’s impact and create opportunities for opposition forces.

He called on stakeholders to sustain grassroots engagement, defend government policies, and translate support into electoral victories.

“Unity must be matched with action. We must take the message to the people, defend our reforms, and mobilise effectively,” he said.

Earlier, former Delta State Governor and South-South Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, said the summit was designed to equip participants with the knowledge and tools needed to effectively communicate the administration’s reform agenda.

Okowa explained that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was initiated to address long-standing economic and social challenges, including weak fiscal structures, unemployment, and low investor confidence.

He highlighted key achievements of the administration, including improved foreign reserves, increased oil production, expanded healthcare access, education reforms, and infrastructure development, while admitting that the communication gap has limited public appreciation of these gains.

According to him, ambassadors must actively engage citizens in markets, communities, and institutions, using facts and relatable examples to explain reforms and counter misinformation.

Also speaking, Chairman of the occasion and South-West Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Adedayo Adeyeye, described the South-South as the economic backbone of Nigeria and expressed confidence that the APC would emerge victorious in the 2027 general elections.

He said the region remains pivotal in determining Nigeria’s political direction, adding that growing alignment with the APC reflects increasing acceptance of the party’s policies and leadership.

Participants at the summit were urged to replicate the strategies discussed in their respective states and local government areas, with emphasis on measurable actions, continuous engagement, and unified messaging.

The summit also had in attendance, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, APC Deputy National Chairman (South) Emmanuel Eneukwu, South-South Chairman, Victor Giadom, Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, Speaker Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, as well as members of the National and State Assemblies from the region, among other dignitaries.

The summit concluded with a strong call for commitment, discipline, and coordinated action, as party leaders stressed that the success of ongoing reforms and future electoral victories would depend on effective communication, grassroots mobilisation, and sustained public engagement.
