First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, has led a high-powered female delegation to Daura, Katsina State, to pay a condolence visit to the widow of former President Muhammadu Buhari, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, following the death of the elder statesman.
Speaking during the visit on Saturday, the First Lady described the late President Buhari as “a symbol of integrity, discipline, and devotion to Nigeria,” adding that Nigerian women were united in grief and stand in solidarity with the former First Lady and the entire Buhari family.
“I came to Daura with the wives of top government officials to condole with our dear sister, Her Excellency Aisha Buhari, over the loss of her beloved husband, President Muhammadu Buhari,” Mrs Tinubu said.
“This visit is not just personal; it is a collective expression of sympathy from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the women of the nation. Nigeria’s women stand firmly with Aisha Buhari in this moment of grief.”
The First Lady was accompanied by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima; wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hajia Fatima Tajudeen Abbas; wife of the Deputy Senate President, Hajia Laila Barau; wives of state governors, ministers, service chiefs, and other prominent women across the country.
She described Buhari’s legacy as one rooted in service to the common man, stating that he served Nigeria with honour both as a military leader and a democratically elected president.
“His life was marked by unwavering commitment to nation-building, public service, and the welfare of ordinary Nigerians. He was not just a former president; he was a statesman whose memory will remain evergreen in the history of our nation,” Mrs Tinubu said.
She offered prayers for the repose of the former president’s soul, asking Almighty Allah (SWT) to grant him Al-Jannah Firdaus and to comfort his widow, family, and all who mourn him.
The delegation later signed the condolence register at the Buhari family residence and spent time with the former First Lady and her children.
