This collaboration was highlighted during a courtesy visit to the postmaster general of the federation/CEO, NIPOST, Tola Odeyemi by national commissioner/CEO, NDPC, Dr. Vincent Olatunji, and management team to NIPOST’s headquarters in Abuja.

The visit underscored the urgent need for robust data protection measures within NIPOST and served as the launchpad for a comprehensive data protection and privacy sensitization training for NIPOST staff.

Dr. Olatunji stressed the importance of safeguarding personal data in NIPOST’s daily operations, emphasising the need for compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023.

Tola Odeyemi welcomed the initiative, noting that with over a thousand locations across Nigeria where data is processed daily, such training would significantly bolster NIPOST’s operational credibility and ensure compliance with national and international data protection standards. She also pointed out the importance of securing the vast amounts of data collected from Nigerians in the course of NIPOST’s services.

Dr. Olatunji commended NIPOST’s leadership for its commitment to data protection and its proactive approach in safeguarding citizens’ information. He urged NIPOST to implement comprehensive data protection practices to ensure that citizens’ data is handled with the utmost security.

The three-day training, which began with NIPOST’s management team, extended to other staff members from various departments across the organisation, which started on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. The sessions also covered essential topics such as the Nigeria Data Protection Act, data security, handling personal information, and the organisational measures required for data compliance.

This training initiative represents a critical step towards institutionalising data protection in NIPOST, reinforcing its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of data privacy and security.
