Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Nasarawa State has appealed to Governor Abdullahi Sule to implement the N30,000 national minimum wage to workers on grade level seven and above.

The chairman of the NLC in the state, Comrade Ayuba Ismaila Oko made the call in an address marking the 2023 May Day celebration yesterday in Lafia, the state capital.

While commending Governor Sule for implementing new minimum wage for workers on grade level one to six, Comrade Oko said that the senior civil servants was long overdue for that, even as he urged him to impress on the committee set up for the purpose to accelerate the process.

He also urged the governor to extend the gesture to pensioners who are yet to enjoy consequential adjustment as a result of the increase in salaries.

Comrade Oko also lauded Governor Sule for approving the promotion of civil servants in the state government’s employment without the rigours of having to sit for examination for the purpose.

He expressed hope that the promotions will cut across all sectors, including workers at the local government and tertiary institutions, even as he appealed to the government to ensure the gesture covers up to July 2023.

He equally urged the governor to prevail on the Head of Service to hasten the processes leading to the release of some housing estate to civil servants in the state, which he earlier approved for workers on owners occupied basis.

He said the housing estates which include Nasara Estate, Abdullahi Adamu Housing Estate and Eight man’s Quarters at old tomatoes markets, have put smiles on the faces of the beneficiaries and raised their hope of owning their own apartments after retirement.

He congratulated the governor on his re-election for another term in office, even as he assured him of the trade unions’ support towards his aspiration of moving the state forward.

He said the renewed mandate was as a result of the governor’s performance and workers friendly policies in the last four years.

“Let me on behalf of my colleagues in the new exco assure you all that we will hold the mandate given to us in high esteem. This therefore means that we will always consider the interest of members and indeed that of the majority of people above selfish interest in all our official responsibilities,” he added.
