The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has raised alarm over what it described as an emerging and coordinated campaign of sabotage aimed at discrediting its leadership and derailing its ongoing reforms.

In a statement released on Friday, the NNPC management alleged that a syndicate involving individuals both within and outside the organisation was orchestrating a misinformation campaign in response to the company’s push for transparency and accountability.

“The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has uncovered an emerging coordinated sabotage campaign being waged by a syndicate of known and faceless actors, both outside and within various levels of the organisation,” the statement read.

According to the company, this group was deliberately spreading lies and planting fabricated reports designed to mislead the public and undermine the credibility of its leadership.

“Their tactics include planting scandalous and fabricated reports, curated to distract leadership, mislead the public, and undermine the commitment of our dedicated workforce and reform-minded Nigerians,” NNPC added.

The Corporation described the effort as a desperate move by individuals threatened by the company’s transformation agenda, which aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s mandate to rid the sector of corruption and drive performance.

“This is a calculated attempt to obstruct the transformation of Nigeria’s foremost energy institution,” the company noted. “We expect a surge in defamatory content in the days and weeks ahead. But NNPC Ltd. remains undeterred. The transformation is underway, and no amount of sabotage will stop it.”

The company called on its staff, stakeholders, and patriotic Nigerians to remain focused and ignore the distractions.

The development came just a day after the Senate Committee on Public Accounts issued a 10-day ultimatum to NNPC to respond to audit queries over discrepancies in its financial statements.

The committee is currently investigating reported N210 trillion gap in the company’s audited accounts for recent years.
