The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has reclaimed the Tarauni Federal Constituency seat given to the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate.

Earlier, the National and States Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal had sacked the elected member representing the Constituency Mukhtar Umar Yarima who was accused of presenting a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In his ruling, Justice I.P. Chima declared Yerima ineligible to contest for presenting a forged copy of his primary school certificate to INEC

The tribunal also ruled that the seat be given to Hafizu Kawu of the APC.

On appeal, the appellate court on Saturday disagreed with the ruling by the tribunal saying it had failed to establish a case of forgery against the defendant.

Yerima explained that he never submitted forged certificate to INEC insisting that the problem was founded by the change of name which he legally did long before the 2023 General Election.
