Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has assured the state electorate that the planned 22nd of February 2025 local government elections will be held without hitch.

The commission gave the assurance in the wake of pending litigations against the conduct of the elections.

The commission spokesperson, Sadiat Isiaka, clarified various cases in court on Sunday in Osogbo and urged the general public to remain focused as the election process proceeds seamlessly, legitimately, and steadily without hitches.

While contending that there was no cause for alarm despite the ongoing cases in courts at various levels, Isiaka maintained that, according to the information made available by the OSSIEC Legal Department, there are six cases against the commission.

She added that there are two appeals on the same issue, two at the Federal High Court and two before the State High Court, saying that the two appeals were against separate decisions of the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo delivered by Hon. Justice Ayo Emmanuel on 25 November 2022 and 30 November 2022.

According to her, the judgment nullifying the purported local government elections in Osun State, thereby sacking the purported elected officials, all of whom belonged to the APC, is validly a subsisting appeal against the same being dismissed.

She said the other two cases against the eligibility of the chairman of the commission, Hashim Abioye, to conduct the election and the one filed by the SDP seeking the nullification of the process of the local government elections are awaiting trial.

The commission assured the public to remain focused and prepare for a seamless election in Osun State on February 22, 2025.
