Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has said his administration will not compromise the security of lives and property at Lokpanta Cattle Market in Umunneochi local government.

Otti stated this yesterday when he paid an unscheduled visit to the market along Enugu-Port Harcourt Express to inspect the ongoing perimeter fencing of the largest cattle market in the South East.

“We’re poised to rid the market and its surroundings of crime and criminality. We will not only ensure the protection of lives and property of those with legitimate business, but will also support them,” he said.
“On your part, you must fish out criminals among you, because you might fall victim to their attack.
Criminals don’t ask where you come from, what religion or language you speak.”

He reminded them of the government’s directives to residents of the market to vacate and find alternative places of abode as part of the security measures to protect the market from criminals.

The governor, who said the government was making arrangements on how and where to relocate them, expressed dissatisfaction at the sanitary condition of the abattoir and the environment.

“So, you have the responsibility to keep the abattoir and everywhere around you clean,” he admonished and commended them for their support to the government.

Responding on behalf of the traders, one of the leaders of the market and chairman of the abattoir, Alhaji Danladi thanked Otti for the visit, assuring that they will comply with the directives.
