A preliminary report on the props failure at a section of the ongoing construction at Ekeoha Market, Aba , indicated that neither fatality nor structural collapse occurred in the incident.
The director general of Greater Aba Development Authority, Uche Ukeje, stated this in a statement yesterday in Umuahia, Abia State capital, following the Tuesday incident.
The statement explained that the findings were made by a committee set up by the state government through the authority and headed by an engineer, Felix Nnabugwu.
It said the committee, which comprised experts from the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Nigeria Institute of Builders, and the Nigerian Institute of Architects, is to assess the cause and extent of the incident.
It further noted that the committee, which is expected to provide a comprehensive report on the incident within two weeks, is committed to delivering an unbiased report.
According to the statement, in a swift response to the incident, the authority sealed-off the construction site to prevent further work until the investigation concluded.
“Government urges the public to ignore any misinformation contradicting this release and reassures everyone that the findings will be shared transparently, underlining their commitment to protecting the community’s safety.”
