The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has stated that the 2025 Christmas season passed without reports of attacks on churches, describing this as a notable departure from past experiences.

President of CAN, Daniel Okoh, stated this after leading leaders of the association on a visit to President Bola Tinubu at his residence in Lagos to felicitate with the family during the Christmas season.

According to Okoh, the visit was to express appreciation to the President and his wife, Remi Tinubu, for their efforts, particularly in caring for the poor, promoting national development, and advancing peace across the country.

“This Christmas happened to be the first Christmas in many years that we are not woken up with phone calls in the midnight to say that a church was attacked,” Okoh said. “It is a testimony we must share, and we hope and pray that this will continue.”

He said CAN was encouraged by recent efforts by the Federal Government to ensure that Nigerians live in peace, noting that the association was pleased with what he described as renewed commitment to national security.

Okoh also pledged the association’s continued support for the President, stating that CAN would continue to work with him for the development and progress of the country.

Responding to questions on tensions that followed comments made by the President of the United States at an earlier time, the CAN President said Tinubu had shown responsiveness to issues raised.

“We are seeing renewed efforts and commitment to strengthen the security architecture and to ensure that Nigerians are going out in peace and coming back in peace,” he said.

While acknowledging that more work still needed to be done, Okoh said the President had started well and expressed hope that the ongoing efforts would be sustained.

“We hope and pray that maybe by next year we will be able to see visible results of what is being done now,” he added.
