Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike has warned that contractors who fail to meet the terms of their contracts would be stopped.

The warning came during a site inspection at the Apo Roundabout to Wassa Road in Abuja yesterday.
He expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of work on the project and urged all contractors to adhere strictly to their agreements.

“We have no tolerance for non-performing contractors. If a contractor does not deliver, they will be removed without any sentiment involved.

“Whether you are an indigenous or foreign contractor, it does not matter to us, our only concern is the execution of work. If you complete the work satisfactorily, we will continue to work with you. But if you fail, we will dismiss you and ensure you are held accountable,” he added.

Addressing the postponed completion date of the road which is now May instead of the originally scheduled December-January timeframe, Wike said it was unacceptable.

“This is very disappointing. I am not encouraged by this delay,” he stated.

He said despite the contractor, CGC being a respected company behind the project, he was dissatisfied with its progress.

“I went to inspect the site and did not see adequate equipment. I trust that they mobilised equipment today because of this visit,” he said.

Wike tasked the director of engineering services at the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Richard Johanna, with extracting a firm commitment from the construction company on the new completion date.

He demanded a detailed work plan from CGC, emphasising the project’s significance for both the FCT administration and residents.

“This road is crucial for reducing traffic congestion and boosting economic activity in the area. It is vital for us to be out here, inspecting the work, rather than just sitting in the office reviewing reports,” he said.
