The Bauchi State Senior Civil Servants Association has said that the Governor Bala Mohammed administration was not owing workers’ salaries.

The chairman of the Association, Abdullahi Hassan, made the clarification during a press briefing in Bauchi.

Hassan debunked rumours about unpaid salaries, noting that civil servants in the state were grateful for prompt payment.

“Workers in Bauchi are not owed salaries for even a single month; all salaries are paid promptly and diligently.

“But it is usual for disgruntled elements to pretend not to see anything good in government efforts no matter how well intended. These are people with negative mindsets and are found everywhere,” he said.

Hassan confirmed that the government had directed workers experiencing delays due to problems with their PSN number, bank account information, instances of death, among others, to report such.

The chairman also pointed out that the only legitimate and competent body to raise alarm on welfare and concerns of workers is the organised labour.

“We as leaders of Labour unions are aware of government’s efforts towards meeting its obligations to workers. I can tell you, as Labour representative in Bauchi, no worker is owed salary,” he stressed.

Hassan disclosed that a report has been submitted to the state government on salary reforms, as well as permanent ways to resolve all issues around salaries.

On the claims that ministries are responsible for payment of staff salaries, Hassan affirmed that each ministry pays as it is their responsibility to do so.

“Every ministry or establishment of government is therefore responsible for the timely payment of its staff salaries,” he said.

Hassan thanked Governor Mohammed for the “tremendous transformation in Bauchi and his dedication to safeguard lives and property of the people.”
