The new commissioner of police in Ebonyi State, Sunday Olaleye, yesterday assured people of the state that there would be elections in all designated polling units in the state despite threats by some non-state actors that there won’t be elections in the Southeast region.
Olaleye who spoke in Abakaliki maintained that the threats were empty and urged people of the state to ignore it.
He said men of the command were battle-ready and on ground to ensure that the state has free, fair and credible elections on February 25 and March 11, 2023.
The commissioner who had a joint conference with senior officers, SPOs, heads of various departments and divisional police officers, debunked the insinuation that a certain political party in the state was in control of the police command.
He noted that the police are for everyone and no individual, political party or government can control the force and urged the people to disregard the insinuation.
On collaboration with the disbanded Ebubeagu Security Outfit, CP Olaleye maintained that he cannot work with a non-existent group, adding that having been disbanded by the court based on the information available, the police cannot work with such a group.
