Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has said the establishment of the Northwest Development Commission is a key step to tackling the key drivers of insecurity in the North-West region.
In his remarks during the visit of minister of defence, Mohammed Abubakar to Kaduna on Thursday night, Governor Sani called on the people of the North West region to come together to fashion a marshal plan for the development of the region, noting that the plan must be people-driven and all-inclusive.
Sani emphasized that the North-West Development Commission must be run by men and women of transparent honesty; knowledgeable and innovative individuals and “There must be no room for incompetence or lethargy.
“This visit will also enable you to put finishing touches to preparations for the official launch of Operation Fansan Yamma, the newly established Theatre Command for the Northwest region and adjoining states including Niger.
“For us in Kaduna State, and indeed the Northwest Zone, this initiative is timely and strategic. It is a clear demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to decisively tackling the multidimensional challenges of insecurity confronting the zone.
“This visit is a significant step in our collective efforts at frontally tackling insecurity in the Northwest Zone. Insecurity has had debilitating effect on all facets of life in the Northwest. Our zone that was the food basket of Nigeria now faces the challenge of food insecurity. Our people cannot access health facilities.
“Most of our children are out of school due to the activities of criminals with scant regard for human life and dignity. Poverty has worsened. Fear pervades our zone. We therefore welcome the establishment of this Joint Military Theatre, and the launch of Operation Fansan Yamma, to tackle our broad range of lingering challenges.”
