Residents of the Northeast states of Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe and Borno have lamented the current total blackout attributed to the damage of one of the transmission lines.

The incident, it was learnt, had left the residents without electricity for several months, leading to a difficult situation for businesses and individuals alike.

The blackout has led to a significant impact on the daily lives of people in the affected areas. Many businesses have been forced to shut down, and individuals have been left without electricity to power their homes. The lack of electricity has also affected the provision of medical services, with hospitals and clinics struggling to operate without power.

A resident of Adamawa State, Alhaji Ahmadu Hamman, who is the Dan-Maje Adamawa, who spoke on behalf of the residents in Bauchi, tasked the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to immediately end the suffering of the people of the Northeast by restoring electricity in the zone.

The northeastern states of Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe and Borno States, the franchise area of the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) have been experiencing prolonged blackout as a result of the destruction of a portion of the national grid supplying electricity to the area.

Hamman, who contested for Adamawa Central senatorial seat in the 2023 general election under the All Progressives Congress (APC), said, as a leader, he would not sit back to watch his people and by extension the residents of the Northeast continue to suffer the lack of electricity.

“I want to strongly appeal to our amiable president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu to use his good offices to compel TCN to restore power to the Northeast to save the region from an imminent economic catastrophe.

“I came from Yola to Bauchi this morning for an on-the-spot assessment of the damage inflicted on the TCN facilities and to push for the restoration of electricity so that our people can have some respite.

“I’m happy that TCN is not sleeping on the matter but based on the progress of work we have seen, the company needs to deploy more personnel to meet its deadline. We will remain vigilant until the right thing is done for the good of our people,” he added.
