Northern LP Stakeholders Express Concern Over Tinubu’s Tax Policies

Northern Labour Party stakeholders have noted with concern that the recent tax reforms and certain economic policies introduced by the Tinubu-led administration had placed a disproportionate burden on the poor and middle class.

According to the stakeholders, the measures could worsen the cost of living, stifle small businesses and widen economic inequality among Nigerians, hence their collective responsibility to show where the government falls short of expectation.

At a press conference in Bauchi on Friday, the stakeholders led by Comrade Solomon Ndam, said they stand behind Governor Bala Mohammed on his “objective criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s tax reforms and other policies” which, they argued, have adversely affected the Nigerian masses.

“We, the undersigned stakeholders of the Labour Party from the Northern region, have shown our concerns on issues affecting the Nigerian people. As an opposition political party, it is our duty to objectively assess government policies, criticise where necessary and proffer solutions aimed at promoting the well-being of Nigerians.

“Senator Bala Mohammed’s critique of these policies is a clarion call for the federal government to reconsider and adopt more inclusive and equitable approaches to governance. His balanced stance – offering both commendation and criticism – sets an example of constructive opposition that prioritises the interests of the people,” they noted.

Comrade Ndam appreciated Senator Bala Mohammed for consistently demonstrating a balanced approach in his engagements with the federal government, “when he commended the administration of President Bola Tinubu on several occasions where his policies align with the interests of the people.

“A recent example was during the governor’s visit to Itas Gadau local government in Bauchi State, where he applauded Mr President’s livestock development policy. To further show his solidarity and support for this laudable initiative, Senator Mohammed took a groundbreaking step by creating the Ministry for Livestock Development in Bauchi State.”

The establishment of this ministry, according to the labour party stakeholders, underscores the governor’s commitment to advancing the president’s vision for sustainable livestock management while addressing local needs.

“We urge President Bola Tinubu and his administration to heed these concerns, revisit their policies and work toward reforms that uplift all Nigerians, not just a privileged few,” the stakeholders said.
