The Northern Ethnic Youths Group has praised Senate President, Godswill Obot Akpabio, for what it described as his “measured, decisive, and fatherly leadership” in resolving the dispute over the sealed office of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central.
In a statement released to the media, Alhaji Ibrahim Dan-Musa, the spokesperson for the group, said Akpabio’s handling of the situation was a testament to his commitment to institutional order and stability.
“Even in the face of provocation and a flurry of unverified allegations, Chief Akpabio conducted himself with the grave responsibility and restraint that befits his high office,” Dan-Musa stated. “His actions are a perfect example of the steady, principled stewardship our institutions desperately need at critical moments.”
The group noted that while the legal matters related to the dispute were still before the Court of Appeal, Akpabio’s intervention was crucial in protecting the integrity and functionality of the National Assembly. Dan-Musa stressed that leaders must act to preserve institutional stability when it is at stake.
The Northern Ethnic Youths Group also directed an appeal to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, urging her to exercise restraint and avoid “needless public accusations.”
“We call on Senator Natasha Akpoti to remember her primary duties: to represent her constituents honourably and to serve as an exemplary ambassador for women in public life,” the statement read. It warned that reckless statements and confrontational conduct only inflame tensions and undermine confidence in democratic institutions.
Dan-Musa reiterated the group’s commitment to calm, respect for due process, and leadership that prioritises national interest over personal or partisan considerations. He appealed to all stakeholders to work toward de-escalation and the restoration of decorum in the National Assembly.
