The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has said there is nothing worthy to celebrate as the state marks its 31 anniversary.
The opposition party regretted that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) wasted 24 years of the state’s existence in bad governance.
APC chairman in the state, Dr Kingsley Ononogbu, in a statement yesterday described the period as full of agony and outright failure through kleptocracy.
He said Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s radio broadcast to mark the occasion shows how shallow, forgetful and insensitive his administration and the PDP’s are to the problems inflicted on the people during the period.
He argued that 31 years after the state’s creation, the people should ideally be celebrating monumental developmental strides given the enormous human and material resources “we are endured with as a people by the Almighty God.”
The chairman said the state is merely remembered for its creation, adding that there is nothing concrete to show for its existence especially when compared to neighboring states and others created at the same time.
Ononogbu said, “The Abia State urgly narrative has long become an embarrassment even to the players in the successive administrations since the creation of the state.”
Maintaining that there was “nothing to celebrate within the developmental indexes,” he insisted that the time calls for “sober reflection by all Abians and to ask ourselves, How did we get to this point?”
He, therefore, the people to brighten up “because God has heard their cries and prayers by touching credible sons and daughters of the state who ordinarily would have stayed away from politics to come forward to rescue and develop the state.”
“APC led administration in God’s own state, if given the opportunity by the people will change the narrative positively and lead our people and the state to our collectively desired vision of a new Abia,” he maintained.
