In a decisive blow to criminal elements in Katsina State, troops of Operation ‘Fansan Yanma’ have neutralised 12 terrorists, including the notorious bandit kingpin Kachallah Dogo, during a combat patrol in Maigora village of Faskari local government area.

The operation, which unfolded on Friday around 12:30pm, was triggered by intelligence reports of an impending attack by the criminals.

Troops swiftly responded, engaging the assailants in a fierce gun battle that forced them into retreat. In the initial confrontation, five bandits were killed, and two motorcycles used by the attackers were seized.

Undeterred, the remaining terrorists regrouped and launched a counterattack. However, security forces maintained their ground, repelling the assault and pursuing the fleeing bandits into the surrounding hills.

Mortar fire was deployed, resulting in the deaths of seven more terrorists and scattering the remnants of the group.

A thorough search of the area led to the recovery of seven additional motorcycles used by the criminals. Among those killed was Kachallah Dogo, a notorious bandit leader, who had long terrorised communities in Katsina State.

Another key figure, identified as Malum, sustained gunshot wounds and is believed to be in hiding.

Local sources confirmed that the bodies of 12 terrorists were buried on Friday evening, with Dogo’s death marking a major victory in the fight against banditry in the State.

Security forces have since maintained a strong presence in the area, ensuring the safety of residents and preventing further incursions.

The successful operation was being hailed as a significant step forward in dismantling the network of terror that has plagued Katsina State.
