Balawan’s surrender followed aggressive onslaught on terrorists’ hideouts in the area by the gallant troops.
Similarly, two other terrorists were neutralised by troops and recovered one AK 49 rifle, a magazine, and a bicycle as well as 11 rounds of 7.62 mm NATO ammunition, 23 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, 3 rounds of 5.56 mm x 45mm NATO ammunition and three empty magazines.

A statement by the Nigerian Army on its official social media handles also revealed that the troops rescued a woman and her two children in a ‘search-and-rescue’ operation in Gwoza local government area of the State.

In a related development, troops in Kogi State responded to a distress call along the Obajana – Oshokoshoko Road following the abduction of some civilians who were taken into the forest.

The statement said troops located the victims, where they engaged the abductors in fierce gun battle leading to the successful rescue of the hostages.

Meanwhile, in Benue State, troops acting on actionable intelligence engaged terrorists in a fierce battle along the Gbeji Afia Road where one terrorist was neutralised.

The troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, ammunition and a motorbike in the operation, “thereby preventing a potential attack, and ensuring the safety of the local community”.

In Imo State, troops while acting on credible intelligence, intercepted a vehicle transporting 21 sacks of illegally refined diesel (AGO).

Some armed individuals hired to escort the illegal products were also apprehended by the troops.
