Elegbeleye made the announcement during a media briefing at the league’s headquarters in Abuja, affirming the NPFL’s commitment to a consistent and structured calendar in line with international football standards.

Reflecting on the recently concluded 2024/25 season, Elegbeleye highlighted key statistics and milestones. Remo Stars clinched the league title with three matches to spare, sealing their triumph on matchday 35 against Nasarawa United at the Lafia City Stadium.

The season featured 380 matches, with each of the 20 clubs playing 19 home and 19 away games. In total, 286 wins, 92 draws, and 552 home goals were recorded. Notably, 16 penalties were missed, and referees issued 1,180 yellow and red cards throughout the campaign.

Yusuf Anas emerged as the league’s top scorer, finishing the season with 18 goals, including two hat-tricks in consecutive games. He was followed by Rabiu Ali, who netted 13 goals.

Hon. Elegbeleye also emphasized the league’s growing media exposure and fair competition. “Over 400 NPFL games were broadcast live this season, which is a remarkable step toward increasing visibility and attracting more fans. We now have a more level playing field for all clubs.”

He further addressed improvements in player welfare, stating:

“The issue of unpaid salaries and bonuses has significantly reduced. Financial discipline has improved across the board since this administration came on.”

Looking ahead, the NPFL Chairman revealed that the 2025/26 league winner will receive a prize of ₦200 million, underscoring efforts to elevate the league’s competitiveness and professionalism.
