The Nigeria Premier Football League has confirmed a change to its Matchday 36 schedule, with the crucial fixture between Ikorodu City FC and Wikki Tourists FC now set for Tuesday, 5 May 2026.
Originally slated for Sunday, 3 May, the encounter was moved to accommodate the Lagos State Federation Cup final, which will take place at the same venue on the initial date. The match will still be held at the iconic Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos.
In a statement released on Monday, the league body explained that the adjustment was necessary to ensure a smooth staging of both competitions without logistical conflicts. While the alteration may appear routine, its implications for both clubs are anything but.
Ikorodu City are in the midst of a historic campaign, pushing strongly for what would be their first-ever NPFL title. The Lagos-based side have emerged as one of the surprise packages of the season, blending youthful energy with tactical discipline as they chase domestic glory.
For Wikki Tourists, however, the stakes are entirely different. The Bauchi-based outfit are fighting to avoid relegation, making every remaining fixture a must-win affair. The postponement could provide a brief respite—or disrupt momentum—depending on how both teams manage the additional preparation time.
With the season approaching a dramatic conclusion, the rescheduled clash promises to carry significant weight at both ends of the table, underlining the growing competitiveness of Nigeria’s top-flight league.
