The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that it will operate six train trips on the Lagos-Ibadan Train Service (LITS) corridor on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, as part of special arrangements for the Sallah celebration.
The temporary increase from the usual four trips is aimed at accommodating the expected surge in passenger movement during the festive period as many Nigerians travel to celebrate with their families and loved ones.
Under the arrangement, train departures from Lagos will be at 7:45am, 1:40pm and 4:00pm, while departures from Ibadan will be at 8:00am, 10:50am and 4:30pm.
The NRC said the adjustment is strictly temporary and applies only to the Sallah travel period, adding that the normal Tuesday schedule of four trips will resume immediately after the celebration.
The Corporation also disclosed that the recently introduced Thursday six-trip operations would be temporarily adjusted next week, with only four trips scheduled for Thursday, May 28, 2026, during the review period. It added that the regular six-trip Thursday operations would resume the following week.
Meanwhile, the Osun State Government will operate its annual free Sallah train service on the NRC narrow gauge corridor for indigenes travelling home to celebrate the festival in Osogbo.
According to the arrangement, the special train will depart from Iddo Station, Lagos, on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, while the return journey from Osogbo to Lagos will take place on Thursday, May 28, 2026.
The free service, which is usually provided during festive periods, is being sponsored by the Osun State Government through a paid arrangement with the NRC to transport Osun indigenes free of charge for the Sallah celebration.
The NRC reaffirmed its commitment to providing safe, efficient and reliable rail transportation services across the country and wished Nigerians a peaceful and memorable Sallah celebration.
