National Rescue Movement (NRM) has disowned an online press invitation meant to endorse a joint presidential ticket of Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 election.
The party warned the public and media houses to disregard the announcement, which it described as a plot by impostors and political jobbers to mislead Nigerians.
In a statement yesterday by its national publicity secretary, Peter Letsuwa, NRM said it had no connection to a purported “crucial Press Briefing” scheduled at a hotel in Abuja.
“The press event, reportedly organized under the name “Nigeria National Rescue Movement (NNRM),” was said to promote former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi as a joint presidential ticket for the 2027 elections under the ADC Coalition.
“The invitation did not emanate from the National Rescue Movement,” Letsuwa said.
He added, “This is the handiwork of distractors and political jobbers whose shenanigans know no bounds.”
The NRM emphasized that it has a clearly defined process for disseminating official communications and would never rely on “unorganized, unprofessional, and incoherent messages circulated on social media by unknown individuals.”
Reaffirming its commitment to social justice, rule of law, and national development, the party described the impersonation attempt as “mischief” and called on law enforcement to intervene.
“We call on law enforcement agencies to note these elements and nip their rascality in the bud before it is too late,” the statement read.
NRM also urged its members and supporters to remain focused and not be distracted by “agents of persons with inordinate ambition and penchant for hijacking political party structures via illegal means.”
