National Sports Commission (NSC) has expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for bestowing prestigious national honours and generous monetary gifts on members of the Super Falcons, following their historic victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) hosted by Morocco.
Nigeria’s Super Falcons stunned the continent by coming from two goals down to defeat host nation Morocco 3-2 in the final held in Rabat on Saturday, clinching their record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
In recognition of this remarkable achievement, President Tinubu has announced a reward package that includes $100,000 for each player, $50,000 for each member of the technical and backroom staff, a three-bedroom apartment in the Renewed Hope Housing Estate, Abuja, and the conferment of national honours – Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on all players and staff.

Nigerian sports is on the rise, and this latest gesture is further proof of that.”
Director-General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, described the moment as a turning point for Nigerian sports and extended appreciation to all Nigerians who continue to support the nation’s athletes.
“This is a new dawn. We thank every Nigerian who stands with our athletes. Better days are still ahead. Our doors remain open, and we welcome ideas, advice, and partnerships. We are focused on building a sustainable pathway that nurtures talent from the grassroots while also striving to excel at the elite level.
“Currently, our women’s basketball team is in Côte d’Ivoire defending their AfroBasket title, and our young athletes are in Algeria for the inaugural African School Games. We want to continue this momentum of continental dominance.”
The NSC leadership stated that Nigeria is being led by a President who truly loves sports. President Tinubu cleared the backlog owed to the Super Eagles during last year’s AFCON, and he has also approved the outstanding allowances for the Super Falcons.
The NSC reiterates its commitment to the advancement of Nigerian sports and commends the Super Falcons for being shining ambassadors of the nation.
