The National Sports Commission (NSC) has inaugurated a high-level Diaspora Talent Discovery Committee to identify and integrate Nigerian athletes abroad into the country’s sports system.
The committee will be chaired by UK-based sports administrator, Dr Tunde Adelakun, whose previous experience includes working with both the Nigeria and Benin national football teams. His appointment underscores the Commission’s determination to harness global expertise to strengthen Nigeria’s talent pipeline.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by Dr Kehinde Ajayi, Director of Information and Public Relations at the NSC, the Commission confirmed a strong line-up of members drawn from across the diaspora, all with proven track records in sports and related fields.
Among them are respected journalist Colin Udoh, former sprint star Olusoji Fasuba, ex-athlete Marilyn Okoro, table tennis icon Olufunke Oshonaike and former Super Eagles midfielder Seyi Olofinjana.
Also listed are former Nigeria international goalkeeper Carl Ikeme, sports development advocate Ahmed Muhammed, taekwondo athlete Jordan Joel, Mr Oyilei Orode, Canada-based journalist Adewale Ajayi, UK-based journalist Ayodele Ibidapo, and Clement Nwakpa, who will serve as Media Officer.
The leadership structure also includes Abigail Marshall Katung as First Vice Chairman, David Omigie as Second Vice Chairman, and former D’Tigress captain Sarah Ogoke as Third Vice Chairman.
The committee is expected to play a key role in expanding Nigeria’s talent pool, strengthening international competitiveness, and building stronger links with Nigerian athletes worldwide.
