Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Akwa Ibom State Command has yesterday denied shooting and injuring two suspected oil thieves identified as Aniefiok John Peter and Marshall John Peter.
It said though the suspects are on its wanted list, operatives of the command have never encountered them in gun duel to warrant such unfortunate incident as reported by a newspaper.
LEADERSHIP Friday gathered that a state-based newspaper on December 6, 2023 had published that an officer of NSCDC, had in October, 2023, shot and injured the two suspects while operatives of the command tried to arrest them.
But the command public relations officer, Mr Friday Ekerete, yesterday debunked the allegation while briefing newsmen at the command‘s headquarters in Uyo, the state capital.
Ekerete said the two persons claimed to have been shot by an officer of NSCDC are wanted by the corps for their involvement in bunkering activities, willful and unlawful destruction of the federal government properties.
