The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has constituted a taskforce to check unregistered and unprofessional armed private guards operators in Bauchi State.
The commandant, Bauchi command, Ilelaboye Oyejide, while constituting the committee in his office, said Bauchi would no longer be a safe haven for the operation of illegal security guards.
He said if left unchecked, the illegal private guards would constitute security threats, hence, the need to find a way of dealing with them.
“The illegal private guards, illegal miners and the Sara-Suka that have become a menace and constitute nuisance to the state will be dealt with thoroughly.
“I have constituted a taskforce to monitor and crackdown on operators. Already, a team of well-trained gallant personnel is on ground to go after these miscreants and Bauchi State will not be a safe haven for them.
“Any illegal private guard operator detected will be sealed and taken to court,” he said.
Ilelaboye warned the taskforce which comprises members of registered private security guards and personnel of the NSCDC to discharge their duties with a high level of professionalism.
Speaking on behalf of the taskforce, the head of the team, Captain Dauda Maishanu (rtd) said the existence of unregistered security guards had contributed to a couple of security challenges in the state.
“We will fish out unregistered guards in their locations. We know where they are because we are in Bauchi. There are so many registered guards in Bauchi,” he said.
