As part of its mandate to monitor, regulate and issue operating licenses to Private Guard Companies( PGCs) the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has  issued fresh licenses to  the University of Maiduguri security company and 18 others.

The commandant-general of the corps, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, charged the new operators to contribute their quota to the fight against insecurity by providing credible intelligence and information to the corps and other security agencies.

Audi, in a statement by the director, public relations, DCC Olusola Odumosu, charged the operators to look beyond the business aspect by channeling its energy more towards improving internal security by gathering and sharing of timely, credible intelligence and information.

He said the decision to accommodate them became  necessary owing to the prevailing security situation in the country, especially in the North-east and for the fact that the Private Security Industry has a significant role to play in assisting security agencies towards addressing and checkmating threats.

Dr Audi explained that the Act of Parliament empowers the corps to monitor, supervise, license and train operators of Private Guard Companies (PGC).

He warned them to adhere strictly to the guidelines and conditions of operation and warned against the transfer of operating licenses.
