Federal Capital Territory command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has arrested three persons for allegedly vandalizing communication installations and being in possession of stolen communication cables.
The suspects, according to a statement by the FCT command of the corps, were caught around House on the Rock Church junction in Airport Road, Abuja with fibre cables which were identified to be government properties.
The FCT commandant, Olusola Odumosu, who paraded the suspects explained that they were arrested by men of the anti- vandal patrol team following intelligence reports that some criminals disguised as engineers and pretend to be involved in cable works with the aim of vandalising and carting cables away.
He expressed disgust at the height of vandalism and destruction of critical infrastructure of government (CNAI) particularly in the FCT.
He vowed to intensify the onslaught against criminals and vandals defacing the nation’s seat of power, urging them to vacate the FCT.
Odumosu said, “We will stop at nothing to flush these vandals out of FCT. Thank God you are beginning to see the results of our reactivated patrol teams. We will fish out all of them, and make more arrests in due course.
He said, “These three suspects vandalised and carted away fibre cables but unfortunately for them, the eagle-eyed men of my patrol teams averted their plans.
“We shall deal decisively with them according to the extant laws to serve as a deterrent to others.”
The commandant hinted that the FCT command is working in synergy and collaboration with other security agencies within the FCT and collectively, they will sanitise the FCT by restoring peace and ensuring adequate security.
He commended the FCT minister Nyesom Wike for his policy directions on security and general development of the FCT which the NSCDC has keyed into for better service delivery to all residents.
He warned vandals, hoodlums, scavengers and other criminals to find their way out of Abuja because there is no place to hide anymore.
