NSF: Lagos Promises Athletes Instant Cash Rewards

Ahead of the forthcoming 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF), tagged ‘Gateway Games 2024’
the director-general of Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Mr Lekan Fatodu, has promised instant cash rewards for outstanding athletes during the Games.

Fatodu made the pledge during a visit to the camp of the Team Lagos at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Rowe Park in Lagos, yesterday.

“There will also be instant awards, a reward system for outstanding performers will be presented across all sports,” he said.

He also announced the “open and close camp of the athletes.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Team Lagos has been undergoing intensive preparations ahead of the festival scheduled to hold from May 16 to 30.

Fatodu restated the support and commitment of the state as the athletes intensified preparations for the tournament.

He said that the state government would continue to work to ensure that their outing at the Games would be top-notch.

“I will continue to push on your behalf so that you will continue to get what you deserve.

“Your tireless efforts, dedication, and commitment would be constantly appreciated by the state.

“I pray and hope we are going to get a way out as we are working assiduously to emerge better. There will be an improvement in supporting the needs of associations.

“This is the best team anybody can have, and I am proud of team Lagos as the most competent, prestigious, and enviable team that anybody can present,” he said.

Fatodu said that the state would continue to encourage athletes in terms of standard facilities and equipment.

“Your welfare will be prioritised and taken care of as the state is working assiduously to ensure a seamless outing at the games in Ogun.

Olowolayemo Sikiru, Team Lagos captain, appreciated Fatodu for his quick intervention in attending to the needs of athletes as they prepare for the festival.

He said that the athletes would continue to make the state proud and behave in accordance with the rules of the Games.

“The level of our preparation across the disciplines will showcase the state’s spirit of excellence in terms of sports and talent development,” he said. (NAN)
