The Vice Chancellor Nasarawa State University Keffi, Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed, has challenged lecturers of the institution to seek more knowledge and innovations through regular research.
He said doing so would enable them to impact more positively on their immediate environment, the state and the country at large.
He gave the charge during the inauguration of a professorial building constructed by the university’s Faculty of Administration in Keffi.
The two-storey building is the first of its kind to be constructed solely by the Faculty of Administration to serve as office accommodation for professors in the faculty.
At the inauguration of the edifice, Professor Suleiman Bala called on the lecturers to continue to engage in programmes especially research and innovations that would add value to humanity, especially in the area of infrastructure.
He urged all public-spirited individuals and institutions to invest in the university as part of their social responsibilities, noting that the government alone cannot effectively fund universities.
“The education sector is capital intensive that government alone cannot meet all the needs of our universities across the country. Just recently, we have received a donation of over 250 million Naira from ASR Africa to build an auditorium for the university.
“We will continue to utilize our innovative skills to solve immediate problems by reaching out to development partners for collaborations and other result oriented ventures,” he said.
He called on the lecturers to continue to see themselves as role models and make themselves accessible to the students at all times.
The dean, Faculty of Administration in the university, Professor Barnabas Barde, said the initiative was borne out of persistent inadequate befitting office accommodation for the university, especially professors.
Barde explained that the building which was funded through students’ dues was constructed and fully equipped according to the National Universities Commission NUC standard.
The director, Physical Planning , Mr. Ahmed Liman who commended staff and students of the faculty of administration for the gesture pointed out that the building had met all required standards.
