The National President of National Union of Food, Beverages and Tobacco Employees of Nigeria [NUFBTE], Comrade Garba Ibrahim has condemned the resurgence of banditry and kidnapping across the country after 2023 general elections, urging the incoming government to tackle the problem.

Ibrahim who stated this in an exclusive chat with LEADERSHIP also tasked President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to help restore lost glory of the Real sector so that more industries will not fold up or relocate to other West African countries.

According to him, the over 200 per cent increment of excise duty on carbonated drinks by the Federal Government has caused the relocation of many industries from the country.

“The kidnappers’ attacks after and before elections across the country are issues of concern which need all hands on the issue to take seriously. Upon all the monetary policies introduced by the Federal Government and Central Bank of Nigeria [CBN] in order to tackle the issue it is taking another dimension which needs another approach also.

“The president-elect has to focus more on tackling and restoring peace with more priorities than ever other issues because security is paramount to the government.”

In another interview with our correspondent, the General Secretary Joint Action Front of Nigeria [JAF], Comrade Aboidun Aremu identified injustice across the country as reason for the renewed insecurity.

JAF General Secretary claimed that unless injustices on ground are resolved, the President-elect will not be able to do much.

According to Aremu, “Why is it that the banditry and kidnappings that died down during elections rose up again? It means those behind the insecurity that were busy during elections are now free to begin their anti-peace operation, so the roots of banditry and kidnappings must be thoroughly investigated.”
